Time and Tide

In 2014 The Friends of Lancashire Archives successfully secured a grant of £12,000 through the Arts Council England Grants for the Arts scheme to fund a creative writing project: Time & Tide. Coroner's records from the Lancaster and Morecambe district, held at Lancashire Archives (DDHD/CR), were used to inspire new pieces of writing. The records date from the time of World War I and the project aimed to help participants, particularly young people, connect with this period in history and with their community.
Time & Tide helped tell and retell the stories of people on the Morecambe home front, whose untimely deaths were inextricably linked to the tragedy engulfing the world in 1914-18. It shone a new light on the effect the war had on this well known Lancashire seaside town.
