What have FLA achieved ?

In a word, lots.

Lancashire Archives is the home of 900 years of Lancashire's archival heritage. The Friends have raised over £75,000 to buy at-risk archives, purchase equipment and other resources, and support archive-related projects.

Here is an illuminated capital from a mandate of John Till, Prior Provincial of the Order of Dominicans in England (1418 - DDHU 53-3) - one of the many treasures FLA have helped to purchase.

Archives saved by FLA

Sometimes the only way archives can be saved for present and future generations to enjoy is to buy them. Without the fundraising of The Friends many treasures would have been lost from view. Here are just some of the things we have bought, or helped buy. Click the links to find out more.
  • The Hulton Archive
  • Towneley of Towneley Collection
  • Humphrey Repton's "Red Book"
  • The Lathom House scrapbook
  • Letters Patent appointing a Guide across the Sands
  • The Hylda Baker Archive
  • The archive of Abbot and Co, stained glass manufacturers of Lancaster
